Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
