This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the song choice.
The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
