Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
