New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
