Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has remained silent.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
