England to Launch the European Championship 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium

The England national team will embark on their 2028 European Championship campaign at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they secure the relatively straightforward entry for a competition hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s game since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to host the Three Lions for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, should they win the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Kickoff and Demonstration

The championship was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from Uefa and the host football associations were heckled as they entered the location by about 50 protesters, who urged the Israeli team to be kicked out from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.

Banners were raised with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Fixture List

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will include the Dragons if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will attract households and help engage a more diverse set of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualification process; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through that route.

Stadiums and Elimination Phase

Villa Park and The North London arena finalize the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight staged at the national stadium of each host.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in Belfast, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“This will be a championship for the fans and a festival of everything we value about the football – its fervor and capacity to bring people together.”

Over 3 million admissions, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be released to fans.
