Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has proclaimed a disaster situation - which is triggered by numerous deaths, extensive property destruction, and interruption of income sources and everyday existence for people in the affected areas.

This powerful storm, referred to locally as Tino, tore through the populous island of Cebu, inundating whole settlements and washing automobiles along avenues.

Many thousands of people have been evacuated, others are resting in designated safe zones.

Rescue teams have begun work while affected citizens seek shelter in emergency centers.
