Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
