Arteta Applauds ‘More Reliable’ Squad and Confirms Havertz Setback.

Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can keep managing with player absences following confirming that attacker Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The German forward has been sidelined since the summer following an operation on his knee. Hoped to be available at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when stepping up his recovery and could not progress “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is far more dependable and has more options,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update creates a tactical puzzle for the midweek match against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position against Chelsea, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains an option following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues affect centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably continue in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

The manager is convinced the substantial investment on reinforcements in the last transfer window has placed the club in a more robust situation to deal with such absences.

Questioned if increased squad depth was benefiting their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Absolutely, because this season has been worse in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he added.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at the top. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Speaking about the complication previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered further detail. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the required step and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, for me, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his mentality, his personality. I watch him struggle on the sidelines.”
