Admittedly, it's Full of Nonsense, Over-the-Top Hospitality and Self-Help Jargon. However, I Honestly Love Meghan's Festive Episode.

No matter the time of year, it's always open season for criticism on the Duchess of Sussex's TV show, With Love, Meghan. Critics, expert and amateur alike, have hardly ever agreed so completely as when eagerly tearing the program's earlier episodes apart. The general consensus held that a bigger monarchy-related faux pas had hardly ever taken place than the notorious snack re-labeling incident.

Now, as a festive rebel, she has returned for another round with a "Christmas Special" (aka a Christmas special). Yet now, it's different. The familiar ingredients we've come to expect – meaningless jargon salads, overzealous entertaining – remain, but set of a yuletide episode, suddenly it all makes sense. The pieces have fallen perfectly; it's a ideal seasonal storm.

By this point, Meghan is like the oddball family member at the typical holiday get-together – providing unasked-for guidance, and delivering the periodic peculiar declaration. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's quite a personality, but her aura is known and oddly reassuring. And she appears happy enough; she's inflicting any harm.

She knows her all subtle gestures, word and glance will be picked apart and judged, but manages to seem relaxed and serenely untroubled.

It could be this is the first occasion in history where that old chestnut – "Don't listen, it's pure jealousy" – might be true. Since, you know what?, everything in Meghan's Holiday Celebration is charming. Admittedly, it's all painfully excessive, silliness and extravagant – but doesn't that represent just what Yuletide is for? And the talk she's talking might be ridiculous, but the life she leads appears to be beautifully curated.

Anything she turns her beautifully manicured, diamond-adorned hand to, she accomplishes with style. Her recipes looks tasty, the wreath she crafts is stunning, her presents are practically too exquisite to unwrap. Nothing is average or visually unappealing – including the way she fastens her apron is stylish and elegant. She doesn't throw a dish in the microwave, it "goes for a spin", and she folds wrapping paper like an paper-folding expert. She also seems to be genuinely relishing herself throughout. How could any cynical observer not be charmed, overcome by festive joy and left with a deep longing for handmade crackers or a vegetable display where broccoli is positioned in the shape of a Christmas ring?

Meghan had a career in acting for a living, of course, but even so, after the degree of examination she has endured ever since she became involved with Prince Harry, a theoretical combination of two legendary actresses would struggle to act this genuinely. Her unwillingness to modify or even soften her shtick, regardless of it being so constantly, globally mocked, is strangely reassuring. In our uncertain world, here is something we can depend on: Meghan will stay true to form, no matter what. We will forever know where we are with her.

If you're still not buying her message, a thought that will surely come as a comfort: you aren't required to. There isn't the draft in this country, and were it to return, it would be improbable to include streaming With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, however, you decide to tune in and are consumed by envy about her idyllic Christmas, you can take solace either. Whether you're a royal or a office worker, no kid completely grasps the time and energy their parent expends in the holiday season. So you can take heart by envisioning Archie and Lilibet's faces when they unfold a calligraphy note that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a handcrafted holiday countdown, rather than a sweet treat.
